About Me

Profile photo

Hi, I’m Alex Kilian, software engineer by day, photographer by day off. Photography is a hobby I picked up in 2024 as a way to slow down, disconnect, and focus on the moment. For me, taking photos is less about chasing perfection and more about preserving memories and experiences as they happen.

My Journey

I started photography simply as an escape from everyday noise. Over time, it became a way to document places I travel to and moments that would otherwise fade. I enjoy being present, observing quietly, and capturing what is already there rather than trying to create or direct a scene.

What I Like to Shoot

My main interests are travel and wildlife photography. I’m drawn to natural, unposed moments and environments that tell their own story without orchestration. I prefer showing things as they are, honest and unfiltered.

I particularly enjoy working with telephoto lenses. For travel, my go to setup is an unusual 70–200, which I love for the compression it creates and the way it lets me focus on details rather than showing all of the noise.

My Gear

Cameras

Canon R5 Mark II

My main digital body, used primarily for wildlife and fast action where reliability and autofocus matter most

Canon 6D

An older but trusted camera that I still enjoy for its rendering and familiar feel

Canon EOS 300

My entry point into film photography, used when I want a slower and more deliberate shooting process

Canon A-1

A fully mechanical classic that I mostly shoot for the experience and its timeless design

Lenses

Canon EF 24-104 f/4 L

A flexible walkaround lens that covers a wide range of everyday situations while traveling

Canon EF 70-200 f/4 L

My favorite travel lens, mainly for compression and isolating details rather than wide scenes

Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L

Used mainly for sports and situations where reach and flexibility are both important

Sigma 150-600 f/5-6.3 OS HSM C

Dedicated wildlife lens for when distance and subject isolation are essential
